Really Good, But Repetative - 79%
Written by anathematized_one on September 11th, 2007

I've listened to this album quite a few times, and never could decide how I felt about it. I finally have come to a conclusion.

First, let's start with the positive. The mix is amazing, nothing is overpowering anything else. Everything is clear and crisp you can tell what is going on, but it isn't over-produced. The riffs are catchy, and dead on. The drums are amazing too, and very accurate. Most drummers doing blast beats that fast tend to just play them as fast as possible, and just end them when the guitar riff ends, but these drums are almost perfectly dead on 16th notes. The vocals are really good too, very crisp and biting, yet fairly discernible. Great musicianship all around.

Now on to the bad points. While the songs themselves aren't repetitive, the structure is. What I mean to say is, no two songs on the album sound the same, but there are two clear, distinct styles. Every other song is fast and blast-beat ridden with a certain structure that hardly deviates, and uses the same tricks in almost every song (such as riffs played twice without drums then four times with), and straight tremolo picking. Then about every fourth or fifth song is slower, and begin with a slower riff, and are full of slowly picked arpeggiated chords, with the same song structure for all of these songs and same tricks. There are only about three of these though.

If you can get past how structurally repetitive this album is, chances are you will like it, and I definitely recommend you pick it up.
